What are Fault Tolerant Keywords?
from:Deb St. George, Publisher, GettingToSuccess.com
Have you ever visited a website where the common keywords were spelled incorrectly? Some people are perfectionists and will be turned off from this. Others, however, are able to find your website if you optimize for these common spelling errors as well as the proper spelling for these keywords. The reason is simple, there are many words that people commonly misspell. There are also keyword phrases that are often searched for that aren't exactly grammatically accurate. These keywords and key phrases are commonly referred to as “fault tolerant” keywords.
The savvy Internet marketer doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Learning to capitalize on the faults of others is a great way to bring in big business if you are willing to make the effort to optimize for these errors.
So, what are some of the common mistakes that you can make money from?
Spelling Variations
Some words are commonly misspelled while others are just difficult to spell. If it's a commonly searched term, misspelled or not, there is profit that can be made by optimizing your website for that word or phrase. Some common spelling errors you may want to consider during your keyword research include the following: double letter, adding letters, leaving out letters, transposing letters, inventing compound words or breaking apart compound words, and leaving off silent letters.
Typos
The bane of all who do business online is allowing the fingers to get ahead of the brain. Typos are very common and the mind often auto corrects and overlooks the typos on questions. Even the most experienced typists are subject to an occasional typo. Unfortunately, these types of mistakes are difficult to anticipate because they are generally random in nature. Pay attention to your own typing and see which typos you make most commonly. If there is a pattern, it is safe to assume that you are not alone and others may share your same typo problems. Do a little keyword research and see whether or not the search results support this theory.
Substituting Letters
Yet another fairly common method for misspelling keyword search terms is by substituting letters. Think of all the words that are commonly misspelled because one letter is substituted for another in that word. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who type in “fone” instead of “phone” without thinking because they sound it out in their minds. There are plenty of words that get quite a bit of traffic in the search engines that are actually spelled incorrectly. Finding them is the first step towards making money from them.
The most important thing you can do for your Internet marketing business is to step outside the traditional roles and comfort zones of brick and mortar businesses. While there are many businesses who would never dream of releasing an incorrectly spelled draft to the public you can make a lot of money online by being willing to do so.
